CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Virginia women's golf team will open its inaugural season at the College of Charleston's Cougar Fall Classic in September, head coach Jan Mann announced on Monday.

The Cavaliers will participate in eight tournaments during their first season of competition. UVa will also compete at the 2004 ACC Championship in Clemmons, N.C., in April.

"My philosophy as a coach has always been, if you want your team to be the best, then you need to have them competing against the best," Mann said. "I believe that this team will be up for the challenges ahead. Our goals will be to work hard in the classroom and in practice and to enjoy the challenge of competing against the best teams in the country. If they can do those three things, then I am sure they will gain invaluable experience and our first season will be a success."
