YORK, NY -- Coming off winning the 2002 NCAA Individual and team National titles, Duke rising junior Virada Nirapathpongporn leads the Women's Eastern Golf Association Championship after two rounds of action at the Country Club of York.
Nirapathpongporn fired a 68 on Wednesday and owns a two-day total of 137. The Bangkok, Thailand native leads the overall competition by six strokes over Kristy McPherson (143) with Diana Ramage (144), Leigh Turner (145) and Sherry Herman (145) rounding out the top five. Nirapathpongporn was tied for the lead after day one with Turner.
The final round will be Thursday with Nirapathpongporn teeing off at 9:48 AM along with McPherson and Ramage.
Nirapathpongporn qualified for the U.S. Open last week for the first time of her career. She finished the 36-hole qualifier with 144 at the Deer Brook Golf Club in Shelby, N.C.
