Three UVa Women's Golfers Named to ACC Academic Team
June 9, 2006 Greensboro, NC - Virginia golfers Leah Wigger, Rachel Smith and Carly Truitt have been named to the 2006 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women's Golf Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. Wigger is one of six players who also earned All-ACC honors. It is the third time both Wigger and Smith, both juniors, have been honored. Truitt was a freshman last season. A second-team All-American, Wigger led UVa with a school-record stroke average of 73.26 in 2006. She was also named to the CoSIDA District III second-team Academic All-America team. Smith played in 10 tournaments and posted a stroke average of 76.37 while Truitt was just below her at 77.03.
