DURHAM, N.C. - After completing her freshman campaign at Duke just two weeks ago, Liz Janangelo registered a four-stroke victory at the Connecticut State Open on Tuesday at the Fox Hopyard Golf Club in East Haddam, Conn.

Janangelo took a four-stroke lead into the final round and played the last seven holes in one-over-par fashion to take the tournament by four strokes over New York pro Cheryl Anderson. She finished the two-day tournament with rounds of 68-75=143, which was one-over-par.

Former Duke standout, Kati Poppmeier, finished as the runner-up pro with rounds of 72-76=148.

Janangelo was a first team NGCA All-America selection as a freshman at Duke this past season, which marked only the third time in school history at freshman has won the honor. She led Duke with two victories and her 73.66 stroke average was the third-best on the Duke freshman charts.
