May 25, 2007 NCAA Women's Golf Standings - Final THREE-PEAT: Duke Women's Golf Wins Third Straight National Championship DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Duke women's golf team completed their task of earning a third consecutive National Championship Friday at the 6,351-Yard, Par 72 LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. The win means Duke has won not only its third straight title but its fifth overall, all in the last nine years. Duke's five titles is second to Arizona State, who has six. ASU was the last team to three-peat, doing so in 1992-95. The championship also marks the ninth in Duke history along with three men's basketball championships (1991, '92 and 2001) and men's soccer (1986). Wake Forest Women's Golf Places 12th at NCAA Championships DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Wake Forest women's golf team concluded the 2007 NCAA Women's Golf Championships with a 12th-place finish at the par-72, 6,351-yard LPGA International Legends Course. The 17th-ranked Demon Deacons shot a 17-over 305 for a four-day, 72-hole score of 65-over 1,217. The Blue Devils built on their eight-stroke lead after the third round and posted the best team score, a two-over 290 to finish at 18-over 1,170 for the tournament, placing 15 shots ahead of Purdue, which had its highest finish in the NCAA Championships at second. UCLA took third with a 34-over 1186. UNC Golfers Finish 21st At NCAA Championship The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired a 319 in the final round of the NCAA Championship for a 1248 total to finish in 21st place at LPGA International's Legends Course. Duke topped the field of 24 teams with an 1170 total for the Blue Devils' third consecutive national championship. The Tar Heels were led in the final round by sophomore Sydney Crane, from Jamestown, N.C., who fired a four-over-par 76 for a 313 total to tie for 81st place. Katie Miller, a senior from Jeannette, Pa., carded a 79 for a 316 total to tie for 93rd place. Freshman Kate Thomas, from Bathurst, Australia, tied for 76th with a 312 total although she struggled Friday posting an 84. Lauren Hunt, a sophomore from Little River, S.C., finished with a 317 total to tie for 95th place after carding an 83 while Ann Laney, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., shot 81 for a 321 total to tie for 101st place. Seminoles' Westrup Earns All-America Honors For Second Consecutive Year TALLAHASSE, Fla. - Florida State University sophomore golfer Caroline Westrup, who finished in a tie for 11th place at the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, has earned All-America First-Team honors for the second consecutive season as announced by the National Golf Coaches' Association at its annual post championship banquet. "I'm honored to earn All-American honors again this season," said Westrup. "Being named All-American is a goal of mine each season and I am happy to reach that goal this season. I am going to work even harder to play better next year and set even higher goals for myself and my teammates. One of my top goals will be to have our team qualify for nationals so we can all share in the experience together." Westrup is the first golfer in school history to earn All-America honors twice during her career. She is one of eight Florida State golfers to earn All-America honors at least once during her career.
