Golfer Marta Prieto in 23rd After One Round of NCAA Championships
May 22, 2001 Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - Wake Forest golfer Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain) is currently in a tie for 23rd place after the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships. Prieto, who is competing as an individual, shot a two-over 74 on the par-72, 6,106-yard El Campeon course at the Mission Inn Resort. The Deacon senior is five strokes back of field leader Laura Moffat of UCLA, who shot a three-under 69 in the opening round. Prieto also posted the lowest score among the six individual players competing. Prieto is looking to improve upon her third-place individual finish in the 2000 Championships, which is the best finish ever by a Deacon women's golfer. Oklahoma State leads the 24-team field after the opening round. The Cowgirls are two strokes ahead of second-place UCLA with a five-over 293. The second round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships takes place on Wednesday.
