Women's Golf In Tie For Fourth After First Round Of NCAA Championships

AUBURN, Wash. - The Wake Forest women's golf team is off to a hot start completing the first round of action in a five-way tie for fourth place in the 2002 NCAA Championships in Auburn, Wash. The Deacs shot a 298-team score, the second lowest 18-hole team score next to 293 shot in 1995 in WFU NCAA Championship history. Junior Nuria Clau leads the Deacs shooting her first under par 72 round this season (71) to sit in a four-way tie for 10th place. Junior Maria Beautell shot three-over par for the 12-way tie for 43rd place. Freshman Ashley Hoagland and sophomore Deborah Means are a part of the 15-way tie for 55th place after shooting four-over par, while senior Katie Brenny shot an 81 first round score for an eight-way tie for 112th place. Arizona leads the 24-team field shooting three-under par for the day. Duke and Georgia are in a tie for second place shooting six-over par. Blue Devil Virada Nirapathpongporn is currently in first place shooting a 68 first round score.
