DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University junior Candy Hannemann has been selected one of four finalists for the 2001 Honda Award. Others selected were Arizona freshmen Lorena Ochoa and Natalie Gulbis and USC sophomore Candie Kung.

The Honda award is given to the top women's collegiate golfer. The winner will be announced on May 25 and the winner automatically becomes a finalist for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which is awarded annually to the nation's collegiate woman athlete of the year.

Hannemann, a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has led Duke to a school record nine tournament victories this season and a 73.10 stroke average. She has posted one first place victory, two tied for first place, six top five, nine top 10, and nine top 20 finishes in 10 tournaments played. She notched a school-tying record 209 in the 54-hole Bryan National Collegiate to conclude the regular season.

Hannemann qualified for the 2001 U.S. Open last week and will be leading the Blue Devils to the NCAA Division I Women's Championship at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. on May 22-25.
