Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championship Deacons Shoot Round of the Day To Finish Fifth At Mercedes Benz Championship KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Behind a couple of under-par rounds, the Wake Forest women's golf team shot the low-round of the day to comeback and finish fifth at the Mercedes Benz Championship at the Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. Junior Natalie Sheary fired a 2-under 70 and freshman Michelle Shin carded a 1-under 71 to lead the Deacons on Sunday while sophomore Cheyenne Woods finished off a good week with an even-par 72. Wake shot a 1-over 289 as a team on Sunday, which was the best round of the day and was the Deacons' second-best round of the season. Wake shot a season-high 312 on Friday and was at one-point in 17th place in the 18-team field. But the Deacons battled-back with 298 in the second round on Saturday and a 289 on Sunday. NC State Women's Golf Ties For 11th at Mercedes-Benz Collegiate KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Julie Saleeby shot a final round even-par 72 to finish in the top-20 and the NC State women’s golf team tied for 11th at the conclusion of the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Collegiate Championship at Fox Den Country Club. The Wolfpack shot a Sunday team score of +13 (301), its best showing of the weekend. For the 54-hole tournament, NC State finished at +46 (910). The field of 18 teams included 13 ranked in the top-50 nationally. The Wolfpack wound up tied with seventh-ranked LSU, while also finishing ahead of No. 9 Ohio State, No. 20 Tulane and 32nd-ranked Furman. Saleeby recorded her second top-20 finish of the fall by placing in a tie for 20th after her even-par 72 today. She finished the tournament with a score of +8 (73-79-72=224), tying her career-low 54-hole score. She had a very steady round Sunday with three birdies and three bogeys.
Kelly Gutshall Invitational Boston College Finishes Sixth at Kelly Gutshall Invitational Lady Pirate Intercollegiate Women's Golf Places Eighth at Lady Pirate Intercollegiate GREENVILLE, N.C. - The University of Maryland women's golf team tied for the lowest score of the day Tuesday afternoon in the final round of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, hosted by East Carolina, at Greenville Country Club, jumping three spots on the day to finish in eighth place. Led by Jessica Hollandsworth's even-par 71, the Terrapins shot an 8-over-par 292 Tuesday to finish with a 903. The 292 was 13 strokes better than their first-round score and 14 better than the second round. Hollandsworth finished sixth in the individual standings, finishing with a 6-over-par 219. Kerri Connolly shot 1 over pat Tuesday to finish at 225. Christine Shimel shot 229 (78-76-75), improving in each round of the tournament. Rounding out the counted scores for the Terps was Hayley Brown, who shot 231 (78-79-74). Lauren Varnas finished at 235 (78-78-79). Hirano Finishes in Top 15 at Lady Pirate Intercollegiate GREENVILLE, N.C. - Sophomore Jennifer Hirano finished in the top 15 as the University of Miami women's golf team finished 12th at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina University at Greenville Country Club on Tuesday. Georgia State (879) won the team title. East Carolina (881) placed second followed by East Tennessee State (891), Xavier (892) and Elon (895). After firing a career-best 69 in the second round Monday, Hirano shot a 76 in the final round to tie for 15th place - her second top 15 finish of the season. She shot a 37 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine. |
