Duke Wins Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The 19th-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team recorded a team round of 310 on the final day of play to finish 12th at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships. The 54 hole event was contested at the 5,985-yard, par 72 layout of the Gettysvue Polo, Golf & Country Club in Knoxville, TN.

The Demon Deacons' finished the tournament with a total of 311-312-310=933 which put therm 41 shots off the pace of the top-ranked Duke Blue Devils who captured the team title with a three-day total of 306-295-291=892. Stacy Prammanasudh of Tulsa captured the individual title by defeating Laura Henderson of Auburn (76-71-71=218) in a four-hole sudden-death playoff to finish the event at 74-70-74=218.

The leading Deacon individual in the field was junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN) who was the only Wake Forest player in the tournament's top 30 as she carded a two-over-par round of 74 on Sunday and finished tied with four other players in 23rd place at 77-79-74=226. Following Kirwin in the individual standings was sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain) who was one of three players tied for 34th place at 79-73-81=233. The remaining WFU individuals in the field included senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN) at 79-82-77=238 and freshman Kate Brenny (Little Falls, MN) at 76-80-82=238 who finished tied with one other player in 51st place and freshman Camille Lee (Orlando, FL) who tied for 63rd place with a 54-hole total of 87-80-78=245.

The Deacons will now be off until the weekend of November 6-8 when they travel to Hilton Head, SC to compete in the GolfWorld Palmetto Dunes Invitational at the Palmetto Hall Golf Club.
