Seminole Women's Golf Team In Ninth Place At Cougar Classic
Sept. 10, 2007
HANAHAN, S.C. - Florida State University senior Whitney Wright is tied for seventh in the individual standings with a one-under par total of 143 and the Seminole women's golf team is in ninth place in the team standings after the first round of the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Golf Club. Wright, who shot a career-best 68 in the first round, shot a four-over par 75 in the second round and begins play in Tuesday's final round only four strokes behind the pace of So-Hyn Park of Notre Dame. Tennessee holds the team lead after the first 36 holes of the event as the Lady Vols shot even par in the first and second rounds. The Lady Vols lead Notre Dame by three shots and Texas by five shots. Florida State, the events defending champion, is six shots out of fifth place and 15 shots behind Tennessee. Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) cruised through her fist nine holes of the day and made the turn at one under par. She counted six holes of par, two birdies and only one bogey. To that point in the tournament, she was playing as well as she had during her Seminole career and was at the top of the leader board with a five-under par score. Wright wasn't as fortunate on the back nine as she carded two bogeys and one double bogey to finish the back nine at four under and a total of three-over par for the round. Wright is looking to earn the third top 10 finish of her career. Seminole All-American Caroline Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) made the biggest jump of the day for Florida State as she carded a team-best tow-under par 70. She is in a tie for 12th place with a two-day total of 144 and is only five strokes behind Park's leading score of 139. Westrup's two-under par score of 70 was tied for the second best score of the round among the 103 golfers playing in the event. Senior Whitney Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) finished the second round with a five-over par score of 77. Coupled with her one-under par score of 71 in the first round, she is in a tie for 32nd place with a two-day total of 148. Brummett was two-over par o the front nine and three over par on the back nine.
Sophomore Lacey Agnew (Jonesboro, Ga.) enjoyed the biggest improvement of the second round for the Seminoles as she finished with a five-over par 77. After carding an 81 in the first round, Agnew has a two-day total of 158. Junior Lauren Cousart (Athens, Ga.) finished the after with her second consecutive score of 79. The third round of the event will be played on Tuesday. Cougar Classic/Sept. 9-11, 2007/Par 72 Yeamans Hall Golf Club/Charleston, S.C./Second Round FSU Results 9/20. Florida State 292 299 591 T7.
