SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - Duke University junior Candy Hannemann finished tied for 30th with a four-day total of 291 in the 2001 U.S. Women's Open Sunday in Southern Pines, N.C. The tournament was played at the 6,256 yard, par-70 Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club.

The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native fired rounds of 73, 73, 72, 73 to finish 11-over-par for the tournament to finish as the low amateur. It marks the second time in the last four years a Duke University women's golfer has finished as the low amateur at the U.S. Women's Open.

Hannemann has recorded the most heralded last two weeks of her golfing career after winning the NCAA Individual title and finishing as the low amateur on Sunday. She was recognized as the winner of the Honda Award as the National Player of the Year last week.

How did you play so well on this course?
"I hit my driver pretty straight this week and I got adjusted to the greens pretty well. I think having played Pinehurst before really helped me and having Jeff [her caddie] out here. I was really relaxed the last two days and played with some really nice people."

Is this the best couple of weeks of your golf career?
"Yeah, I guess I could say that. It has been fun and I have had a lot of fun along the way."
