AUBURN, WASH. - It was a day of moves as the top-ranked Duke women's golf team fired a two-over-par round of 290 and trail Arizona by three strokes with one round of action remaining at the NCAA Championship in Auburn, Wash. The Blue Devils own a three-day total of 877 and trail Arizona (874) and Texas (876).
Blue Devil sophomore Virada Nirapathpongporn turned in a 70 on Thursday and continues to lead the individual competition with a nine-under-par 207. If Nirapathpongporn turns in a 69 in the final round, she will equal the NCAA Championship individual mark in relation to under par (12-under). She leads the individual competition by three strokes over Georgia's Summer Sirmons (210).
Sophomore Leigh Anne Hardin (Martinsville, Ind.) continued her steady improvement with a one-under par 71 on Thursday and now sits tied for 29th individually (219). Hardin began the round with back-to-back bogies on holes 10 and 11, but rebounded with five birdies on the next 10 holes to reach three-under-par. She finished the round with two bogies on the final four holes to finish one-under.
Senior Candy Hannemann (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was back to her normal self as she carded an even-par 72 in the third round and is tied for 76th overall (75-78-72=225). Freshman Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh (Lausanne, Switzerland) turned in a 77 and junior Kristina Engstrom (Djursholm, Sweden) finished with an 83.
Duke will tee off on the first tee beginning at 1:10 PM and going through 1:50 PM with Arizona and Texas in the final round Friday at the Par 72, 6,273 yard Washington National Golf Club.
