UNC Women's Golf Team Third At NCAA Championship

OWINGS MILLS, Md. The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired an 11-over-par 299 and is in third place, just five strokes behind the leader, after the first round of the NCAA Championship being played at Caves Valley Golf Club. Tar Heel freshman Catherine O'Donnell owns a share of the lead after firing a two-under 70.

O'Donnell, the ACC Freshman of the Year from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., carded three birdies and just one bogey en route to her two-under-par score. Senior Sydney Crane, from Jamestown, N.C., carded a three-over 75 and is tied for 25th place, one stroke ahead of sophomore Kate Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, who posted a four-over 76 and is tied for 38th. Allie White, a freshman from Lancaster, Ohio, carded a six-over 78 and is tied for 60th while Lauren Hunt, a senior from Little River, S.C., shot 81 and is tied for 101st place.

Hill's 72 Leads Deacons In Round One Of NCAA Championship

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Senior Nannette Hill made a total of 14 pars and two birdies in her round of even-par 72 to lead the Wake Forest women's golf team in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Women's Golf Championships.

On a sun-drenched afternoon at the long and hilly Caves Valley Golf Club, the Demon Deacons got off to a good start but dropped a few shots coming in and wound-up posting an opening round of 303 (+15) and are currently tied for seventh.

Like Hill, sophomore Allie Bodemann posted a very good opening round of 1-over 73 on Tuesday. The sophomore birdied her first two holes of the day and carded a total of three birdies on the day.

UVa in Ninth Place After 1st Round of NCAA Championships

Owings Mills, Md. – Playing in near-perfect conditions, the third-ranked Virginia women’s golf team found itself tied for ninth place after the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Championships taking place at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. Led by 3-over performances from Whitney Neuhauser and Calle Nielson, the Cavaliers shot 17-over 305 while playing in the afternoon session.

Nielson and Neuhauser are tied for 25th place after shooting 3-over to start the tournament. Virginia senior Kristen Simpson, playing in her first NCAA Championship, shot 77 and is 50th overall. Lene Krog is 60th at 78 and Joy Kim stands 79th at 79.

Duke Women’s Golf Opens In 14th At The NCAA Championship

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – After a solid start on Tuesday morning at the 2009 NCAA Championship, the Duke Women’s Golf team lost ground towards the end of their round and sits in 14th place with a 308 through 18 holes at the 6,443-yard, Par 72 Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md.

Duke carded a 20-over-par, 308, on Tuesday and is only 14 shots off the lead. As a team, the Blue Devils took their first lead of the day by 9:30 a.m., as sophomore Kim Donovan was two-under-par through two holes. Duke was only one-over-par through seven holes but the Blue Devils fell back as they suffered 12 bogeys from holes eight through 13 (not counting Yu Young Lee). The Blue Devils carded a total of six birdies on the day.
