COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Wake Forest women's golf team completed it's second day of competition at the 2000 NCAA East Regional at Ohio State's Scarlet Course in Columbus, OH. After shooting a 297, the best score of the day, the Deacons moved up eight places to eighth heading into the final round of the tournament. As a team, Wake has carded a two-round 607.

Junior Marta Prieto shot a one-under 71 to lead the Deacs. Prieto lists in a tie for 14th place with a two-round 149. Sophomore Katie Brenny shot an even-par 72 in the second round to tie her career-low. Brenny's two-round score of 150 has her tied for 19th place. Freshman Maria Beautell shot a 76 in both the first and second rounds, and will enter tomorrow's final 18 with a 152. Beautell is tied for 33rd. Nuria Clau, a freshman who shot an 80 on the tournament's first day, finished the second round with a 78. She is tied for 80th with a 158. Senior Kelly Kirwin lists in a tie for 88th heading into tomorrow's round. Kirwin shot an 81 to give her a score of 159 through 36 holes.

Purdue continues to lead the field as a team, shooting a 596 through two rounds. The Boilermakers lead second-place Northwestern by two strokes. Auburn's Celeste Troche enters the final round atop the individual standings. Troche has a four-under 140 after finishing the second round with a 69.

The regional tournament will conclude on Saturday with the final round of competition. The top 11 teams and three individuals will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 24-27, in Sunriver, OR.
