Wake Forest Moves To Fourth Through Two Rounds Of NCAA Central Regional
The No. 6 Wake Forest women's golf team carded a second-round 295 in tough conditions Friday to move up to fourth after 36 holes of the 2009 NCAA Central Regional at the Ohio State Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

The Demon Deacons jumped into second place early after a very strong start but slipped to fifth early in the back nine. But the team responded by going 3-under over the final five holes to finish with a round of 295.

Despite being 19-shots off the lead of UCLA, Wake Forest holds a 15-shot edge over Georgia State and Washington, who are tied for ninth. The top-8 teams at the conclusion of play on Saturday advance on to the NCAA Championships at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. 

UVa Remains Fifth at NCAA East Regional
The third-ranked Virginia women’s golf team stayed in fifth place after the second round of play at the NCAA East Regional Championship taking place at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. Virginia shot 17-over 297 during the second round for a 36-hole total of 587. Alabama leads the field at 575 followed by Denver (583) while Tennessee and Vanderbilt are tied for third at 585, two shots ahead of the Cavaliers

Following Saturday’s final round, the top eight teams from the 21-team regional will advance to the NCAA Championships. Tulane is in sixth place behind UVa at 588 followed by Duke (591) and Georgia (592). North Carolina is in ninth place at 594.

Kristen Simpson had Virginia’s best round Friday, shooting 2-over 72 to move up to 38th overall at 149. Whitney Neuhauser continues to lead the Cavaliers on the leaderboard. She shot 74 and is 16th overall at 145. Callie Nielson also carded a 74 and is one shot behind Neuhauser in 19th place at 146. Lene Krog is 46th at 150 while Joy Kim is 69th at 153. Krog shot 77 Friday while Kim finished with a 79. 

Blue Devils Move Up Three Spots To 7th At NCAA East Regional
With 18 holes remaining at the 2009 NCAA East Regional, the Duke women’s golf team stands in seventh place with a 36-hole total of 591, but the Blue Devils are only six shots out of third place at the 6,044-yard, par 70 Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla.

Alabama leads the team play with a 575, while Denver (583), Tennessee (585), Vanderbilt (585), Virginia (587), Tulane (588), Duke (591), Georgia (592), North Carolina (303) and Furman (595) round out the top 10. Day one leader East Carolina shot a 313 on Saturday to move into 11th with a 596, while South Carolina (598), Auburn (598) and Coastal Carolina (598) are tied for 12th.

Duke has turned in rounds of 298 and 293 the first two days. The top eight teams and top two individuals not on the eight teams who advance will move on to the NCAA Championship from May 19-22 at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. Duke has advanced to the NCAA Championships the past 11 straight years. 

UNC Women's Golf Team Ninth At NCAA East Regional
The University of North Carolina women's golf team carded a 303 in the second round of the NCAA East Regional and is in ninth place going into Saturday's final round. The Tar Heels have a 594 total after firing a 291 in the first round.

Sophomore Catherine O'Donnell and senior Sydney Crane led the Tar Heels in Friday's second round as both fired a four-over-par 74. O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., is tied for eighth place at three-over 143 while Crane, from Jamestown, N.C., has a 149 total and is tied for 38th place. Allie White, a freshman from Lancaster, Ohio, is also tied for 38th with Crane after carding a five-over 75 in the second round. Senior Lauren Hunt, from Little River, S.C., shot 80 and is tied for 69th place with a 153 total while junior Kate Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, has a 158 total after posting an 82 and is in 89th place.

Alabama leads the 21-team field with a 15-over-par 575 total after firing a 291 in the second round. Denver is eight strokes back in second place with a 583 total while Tennessee and Vanderbilt are tied for third place with 585 totals. Virginia is in sixth place at 587, Tulane is seventh at 588, Duke is seventh at 591 and Georgia is in eighth place with a 592 total, just two strokes ahead of the Tar Heels. 

Wolfpack Women's Golf In 15th at NCAA Central Regional
The NC State women’s golf team sits in 15th place after two rounds at the NCAA Central Regional at the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University.

The Wolfpack own a team score of +43 (312-307=619) with one round remaining in the 54-hole event.

Freshman Meghan Chapman shot a second-straight four-over 76 and is tied for 27th at +8 (76-76-152) for the tournament. 

Silva And Thomson Lead Seminoles In Second Round Of NCAA East Regional Golf Championship
Seminole Sophomore Macarena Silva and freshman Hannah Thomson carded identical scores of 73 to lead the Florida State women's golf team through the second round of the NCAA Division I East Regional Championship at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida. Silva is in a tie for 46th place and Thomson is in a tie for 54th place in the individual standings. The Seminoles are in 16th place in the team standings heading into the third and final round of competition on Saturday.

The Seminoles need to move up eight spaces in the team standings to finish as one of the top eight teams in the final standings in order to qualify for the NCAA championship round May 19-22 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings, Mills, Md.

Florida State carded a team score of 297 - its third best team score of the year and 10 strokes better than its team score in the first round.
