Clemmons, N.C. - Duke leads after the first round of the 15th Annual ACC Women's Golf Championship. The Blue Devils shot a first round 310, 26-over par and leads NC State (315, 31-over par) by five strokes. Wake Forest is in third with a 32-over 316, and North Carolina is in fourth with 320 (36-over par). Florida State is in fifth with a 41-over 325, and Maryland is sixth with 327 (43-over par).
The biggest story of Friday was the weather. The teams played their first round in driving rain and a gusting wind. The temperatures were in the low 40s causing scores to be higher than normal.
NC State's Courtney Pomeranz leads all individuals with a three-over par 74. She leads Duke's Virada "Oui" Nirapathpongporn and Wake Forest's Ashley Hoagland who shot 75, four-over par. Duke's Liz Janangelo, North Carolina's Meaghan Francella, and Wake Forest's Nuria Clau are in a three way tie for fourth at 77, six-strokes behind the leader.
The ACC Women's Golf Championship is being contested at Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C. The course is 6,348 yards and par is 71.
Second round play will begin Saturday at 8:30 am.
