UNC Has Two of Top Four Individuals at Bryan National Collegiate Tournament

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - North Carolina women's golfer Marcy Newton is tied for second place, and teammate Cuyler Buckles is in fourth after the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate Tournament. Newton tied with Stacey Burnett of Furman with a two-over 74. The two sit one stroke behind the leader, Furman's Lindsay Smith.

Carolina's team is tied for sixth place with Penn State University; both teams carded 320. The University of Washington and Furman University lead the pack with scores of 308. Ohio State and Wake Forest scored a total of 311 strokes and are tied for third place and the Swedish National Team is in fifth with 319.

Tar Heel Shelley McKevitt shot an 84, while Heather Angell is at 87. Beth Lever finished with an 89.

The second round of the 54-hole event will be played Saturday at the Bryan Park Champions Course, a par 72, 6,074-yard layout.
