Wake Forest and FSU Tie for Second at Casa de Campo Intercollegiate

LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic - Led by junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN) the Wake Forest women's golf team finished third at the Casa de Campo Intercollegiate Championship. The 54-hole event was played at the 6,057-yard, par-72 Teeth of the Dog course at the Casa de Campo resort in La Romana, Dominican Republic.

The Demon Deacons improved their play in the final round to post a team score of 322, to finish the event with a team total of 304-324-322=960. That total put them 22 shots off the pace of team champion South Carolina, which finished the two-day event with a 54-hole total of 317-312-309=938. Lotte Moelier of South Carolina captured individual medalist honors as she carded a 1-under-par round of 71 over the final 18 holes to finish the event at 78-79-71=228.

Kirwin placed second in the tournament as she shot a 77 on the final day of play to finish at 74-80-77=231. Following Kirwin in the individual standings was freshman Katie Brenny (Little Falls, MN), who shot an 81 on the final day of play to finish at 78-79-81=238. Senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN) was the next Deacon individual in the field as she finished the tournament at 78-86-85=249. Rounding out the WFU contingent was freshman Nicole Faniola (Old Lyme, CT), who struggled on the first day of play, but carded a 79 on in the final round to finish at 90-90-79=259. Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain), who was the tournament's leader after the first 36 holes, withdrew from the tourney during the third round.

The Demon Deacons will next be in action on March 19-21, when they travel to Columbia, SC to compete in the Lady Gamecock Classic.
