Deacs Second, UNC Tied for Eighth in Casa de Campo Intercollegiate
March 12, 1999 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - North Carolina's women's golf team is tied for eighth place with a 643 total after two rounds of the Casa de Campo Intercollegiate. Tennessee leads the field of 13 teams with a 624 total followed by Wake Forest at 628 and South Carolina at 629. Marta Prieto of Wake Forest grabbed the individual lead with a 153 total after rounds of 74-79. Two players are tied for second place with 154 totals, Kelly Kirwin of Wake Forest and Line Berg of Central Florida. Carolina's Heather Angell is among a trio of players tied for fourth place at 155, the other two being South Carolina's Cecilia Ekelundh and Tennessee's Stacey Bergman. In addition to Angell, Carolina's Marcy Newton is also in the top 15 as she is tied for 15th place with a 158 total. Cuyler Buckles carded a 161 total while Shelley McKevitt is at 169 and Beth Lever is at 183. The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at the famed "Teeth of the Dog", a par 72, 6,059-yard layout.
