Feb. 14, 2008
FEBRUARY 11-13 Natalie Sheary Wins Northrop Grumman Regional, Sets WFU Records Wake Forest freshman Natalie Sheary won her first individual medal after shooting a 72 Wednesday to finish with a three-day total of 215 at the Northrop Grumman Regional in Palos Verdes, Calif. The win, along with Nanette Hill's victory at the Landfall Tradition in the last event of fall, gives the Demon Deacons back-to-back individual medalists for the first time in history. Sheary becomes the first freshman to win an event for Wake since Maria Prieto won the ACC Championship in 1998. Sheary's 215 edged five scores of 216 including Pepperdine's Taylor Karle who missed a ten-foot putt to tie on the last hole of the event. Sheary and Karle headed to No. 4 knotted at 213. Sheary nailed a putt for par moments before Karle missed her par attempt to concede the win. The Deacs finished sixth as a team with a final score of 904. Wake rose to as high as third Wednesday but could not salvage a top five finish. Freshman Allie Bodemann shot a 73 in the final round, her best performance of the three-day event. She finished with a 230.
