Wake Forest Women in 11th Place After 18 Holes at SMU/OSU Challenge
February 9, 1999 PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The Wake Forest women's golf team used consistent play to stand in 11th place after the first 18 holes at the SMU/OSU Challenge. The 54-hole event is being contested at the par-71, 5,912-yard layout of the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif. The Demon Deacons finished the first round of play with a team round of 22-over par, 306. That total puts them 12 strokes behind team leader UCLA which finished with first-round total of 294. Stacy Prammanasudh of Tulsa is the individual leader after she fired a 3-under par round of 33-35=68 on Monday to lead by two strokes. Leading the Deacon individuals in the field is junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN), who is the only WFU player in the top 20, as she carded a 3-over par 39-35=74 to stand among seven players in 14th place. Following Kirwin in the individual standings is sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain). Prieto is part of an eight-player logjam in 26th place at 36-40=76. Freshman Nicole Faniola (Old Lyme, CT) is the next Deacon individual in the field and is one of 12 players tied in 34th place at 36-41=77. Rounding out the Deacon contingent in the event are senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN) in 54th place at 37-42=79 and freshman Katie Brenny (Little Falls, MN), who is tied with eight other players in 63rd place at 36-44=80. The SMU/OSU Challenge continues tomorrow with the second round of play and concludes on Wednesday with the third and final round.
