The University of North Carolina field hockey program will be well-represented at this year's U.S. Field Hockey A Camp sessions. The first session, which runs Dec. 27-31 at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J., will produce the 2000 Under-19 and Under-21 squads. The second session, Jan. 8-12 in Chula Vista, Calif., will be used to select the 2000 U.S. National team.

The National team will compete at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament March 24-April 2 in England, where a top-five finish is necessary to earn a spot in the 2000 Olympics. Should the U.S. earn a berth, the Olympic team would be selected from the National team in June.

The Under-21 team will compete in the Junior Pan American Championships in Barbados in April, while the Under-19 team will play in the Cal-Cup Tournament in Moorpark, Calif., in May and the Montreal Cup in Canada in June.

UNC athletes invited to compete in the first week of A Camp are Lizzy Duffy, Meredith Keller, Carrie Lingo, Abby Martin, Alison Stewart, Amy Tran and Abbey Woolley. Based on their performance, players invited to the first session may be asked also to attend the second session.

Current and former Tar Heels competing in the second session of A Camp are Kate Barber, Kristen McCann, Nancy Pelligreen, Peggy Storrar, Jana Toepel, Cindy Werley and Jana Withrow. All but McCann, a rising senior, were members of the 1999 National team.
