NORFOLK, Va. - The Maryland Terrapins (17-4) take on No. 1 Old Dominion (20-3) for the third time this season on Sunday at 2 p.m. The conditions will be chilly and wet for Terps-Monarchs Round 3 - but both teams are playing for a trip to Louisville, Ky., and a spot in the 2002 NCAA semifinals.

  • The Terrapins are playing for a chance to be one of the final four teams for the fourth year in a row. The Terps reached the national semifinals from 1999-2001, capturing the national championship in 1999 and reaching the title game last season.
  • Maryland and Old Dominion split a pair of meetings this season. The Terrapins posted a 2-0 victory in College Park on Sept. 8, and ODU emerged with a 1-0 victory in Norfolk on Oct. 19. The last time the Terps and Monarchs met in the postseason was during Maryland's national championship run in 1999, with the Terrapins capturing a 3-2 OT victory in College Park.
  • The Terps are 2-3 against the Monarchs in postseason history and are looking for their first postseason victory over ODU in Norfolk. Of the Terps-Monarchs postseason meetings, ODU has posted two wins in Norfolk (1992 and 1996) and one at Villanova (1991), and the Terrapins have posted two NCAA victories in College Park (1995 and 1999).
  • ODU breezed through their first round game yesterday at Foreman Field, beating Richmond 5-1 on the strength of three goals from Tiffany Snow. The Terps waded through sloppy conditions at "Lake Foreman" splashing to a 2-1 OT victory over William & Mary. Redshirt-freshman Tori Cano (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) was brilliant with three saves in her second career start, and will once again be in the cage for the Terps on Sunday.
  • Maryland is No. 5 in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll (NFHCA) after being ranked fourth for two weeks, third on Oct. 22 and holding the top spot for the first six weeks of the season. Old Dominion is No. 1 in the NCAA and NFHCA Coaches Polls.
