![]() 2007 NCAA Field Hockey Championship Bracket Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Five ACC schools were selected to the field of 16 teams for the 2007 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday night. ACC Champion North Carolina, Wake Forest, Maryland, Virginia, and Duke will represent the conference, with the Tar Heels and Terrapins hosting first and second round games. Top-seeded North Carolina opens tournament play on Saturday with a tilt against Stanford (13-7) at 11 a.m. The Tar Heels are coming off of a 4-3 overtime win in the ACC title game against Wake Forest, while the Cardinals advanced to the field of 16 with a play-in game win over Lock Haven on Tuesday. Duke (11-8) earned its sixth straight bid and will meet up with CAA champion James Madison (18-3) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chapel Hill. The winner of the North Carolina/Stanford game will advance to play the winner of the Duke/James Madison game at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Chapel Hill. Maryland was also selected as a host school for the first and second rounds. The Terrapins (14-2) will entertain Old Dominion (12-9) at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Maryland and Old Dominion have met up twice in 2007, with the Terps coming out on top, 4-1, in both contests. Virginia (11-9), winner of a 3-2 overtime game at Boston College in the ACC quarterfinals, will travel to College Park for a first round match-up with Penn State (13-7). The Cavaliers hosted the Nittany Lions to open the 2007 season. The winner will advance to play the winner of the Maryland/Old Dominion game at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Third-seeded Wake Forest (14-5) travels to Michigan for the first round. The Demon Deacons will take on Michigan State (15-5) at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Ann Arbor. The Deacs were winners of a 2-0 decision over the Spartans on Sept. 30 in Winston-Salem. The winner will advance to play the winner of the Michigan/Ohio University game at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Second-round winners advance to the NCAA semifinal round at the University of Maryland on Nov. 16. The championship game is slated for noon on Nov. 18 in College Park, Md.
