GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 2005 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Team consists of 17 student-athletes, with all six league schools represented. Duke led the way with five selections, while regular-season champion Wake Forest was second with four. Maryland placed three student-athletes on the team, while Boston College and North Carolina each had two and Virginia had one.

Duke forward Katie Grant was voted the league's Offensive Player of the Year, as she led the ACC in goals (18) and points (44) despite missing four games to compete with the United States' Under-21 team at the Junior World Cup. The senior from Lehighton, Pa., was named the ACC's Player of the Week on Oct. 3 and becomes the first Duke player to earn Player of the Year honors, offensive or defensive. Grant helped Duke to a 14-3 record and a No. 2 national ranking entering the ACC Championship.

Maryland midfielder Paula Infante was named the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Terrapin to earn the award and the sixth Maryland player to earn Player of the Year accolades overall. Infante, a junior from Santiago, Chile, bolstered a defense that posted six shutouts and ranked second in the league with a 0.96 goals against average. Infante was also solid on offense, scoring 25 points on the year (11 goals, three assists) and sharing the league lead in game-winning goals with five. She was named the ACC's Player of the Week on Sept. 5. Infante and Maryland finished the regular season with a 17-2 overall record and a No. 3 national ranking.

Wake Forest head coach Jennifer Averill was voted the conference's Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career and the third time in the last four years after leading the Demon Deacons to the ACC regular-season title. Averill led Wake Forest to an 18-0 record and a 5-0 mark in ACC play, marking the first time Wake has finished the regular season undefeated. Averill also had the Deacons atop the STX/NFHCA poll for the duration of the regular season.
