GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia defender Inge Kaars Sijpesteijn has earned the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week honor for the week of Oct. 23 through Oct. 29, the ACC announced today.
Kaars Sijpesteijn, a junior from Wassenar, The Netherlands, led the Cavaliers to a 5-3 win against Duke over the weekend, boosting Virginia to the No. 5 seed in this week's league tournament. In the 5-3 win, she patrolled the Cavalier backfield, limiting the visiting Blue Devils' offensive opportunities and creating scoring chances for her teammates. She also contributed on the offensive end, tallying one goal and one assist in the valuable victory.
This Thursday, Kaars Sijpesteijn and the Cavaliers will begin their 2007 postseason with a first-round game in the ACC tournament against the four-seed Boston College. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. face off at the Newton Campus Turf Field in Newton, Mass. Watch the game live on ACC Select.
