GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Janneke van Leeuwen of the Maryland Terrapins was chosen today as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, marking the fourth time this season that a Terp has earned the honor.
Van Leeuwen, a midfielder/forward from Hilversum, Netherlands, played a huge part in two Maryland wins last weekend. At home on Friday, she scored one goal and added an assist as her team posted a 4-1 victory over No. 10 Old Dominion. In Sunday's 7-0 win at Delaware, a team that has been in and out of the rankings all season, van Leeuwen put up a hat trick along with two assists for a total of eight points in the game. She now has 11 goals and 10 assists on the season for the 16-0 Terps.
This Saturday at 1:00 p.m., van Leeuwen and the Terps will face their toughest match up of season when they travel to Chapel Hill to take on No. 1 North Carolina. The winner will have a clear path to the ACC regular season championship and the top seed in the conference tournament next month.
