Virginia Forward Paige Selenski Named ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia sophomore forward Paige Selenski totaled three goals and an assist in wins against Boston University and Atlantic Coast Conference rival Boston College en route to being named the ACC’s Field Hockey Player of the Week. Selenski helped Virginia remain unbeaten with identical 2-0 wins on September 25 when it hosted the Terriers and on September 27 in the Cavaliers’ ACC opener against the ninth-ranked Eagles.
The Shaverton, Pa., native, and 2008 ACC Freshman of the Year, scored both of the Cavaliers’ goals against the Terriers. She notched the first one less than two minutes into the game, and scored an insurance goal for Virginia late in the second half. Selenski then assisted teammate Inga Stockel’s goal against Boston College with a penalty corner shot to give the Wahoos a 1-0 lead, and added her team-high 10th goal of the season in the second stanza.
The pair of wins ran Virginia’s winning streak to 10, and the Cavaliers (10-0) are off to their best start since 1979, when they began the season 12-0. Meanwhile, Selenski is tied for the team-lead with four assists to go with her team-high 10 goals for 24 points, also a team-high. Additionally, her 3.80 shots per game rank fifth in the ACC, while her .711 shots-on-goal percentage stands above all Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 30 in a 4 p.m. tilt against Richmond before returning to ACC play on Friday, October 2 with a 4 p.m. game at top-ranked Maryland.
