Maryland's Witmer Tabbed ACC Field Hockey Player Of The Week
Sept. 21, 2010
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland attacker Jill Witmer scored the game-winner against league foe Boston College Saturday and has been honored as this week’s ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week. A freshman from Lancaster, Pa., Witmer scored twice and added an assist as No. 2 Maryland (7-0, 1-0 ACC) topped then-No. 11 Boston College and then-No. 20 Massachusetts. The Eagles got on the board early, but the Terps responded to tie the game at one. Witmer then drove in a shot from Katie O’Donnell, giving Maryland the lead for good. Less than 10 minutes later Witmer found the back of the net once again for her second goal of the game, and the Terps went on win 4-2, earning their first conference victory of the season. In Sunday’s 3-0 win against UMass, Witmer notched an assist on the final goal of the game, recording her fifth point of the weekend. The ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week will be announced by 5 p.m. each Tuesday throughout the season.
