Maryland's Katie O'Donnell named ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland junior forward Katie O’Donnell has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week of August 31 for her efforts in leading the No. 1-ranked (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) Terrapins to a 3-0 record for the week. The Blue Bell, Pa., native led the No. 1 Terps to a 3-0 record last week to improve to a perfect 5-0 for the season. Maryland won each of its games by no less than three goals as the Terps defeated Northwestern, 7-2, in the last game of the Wildcat Classic on Aug. 31, and handed No. 16 Old Dominion a 6-3 loss on Sept. 4 and No. 19 Michigan a 4-1 defeat on Sunday. O’Donnell scored at least one goal and one assist in each game, as she racked up a total of six goals and four assists for a total of 16 markers. Against Northwestern, she had a goal and two helpers. The 2008 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-American by the NFHCA and womensfieldhockey.com had a hat trick and another assist against the No. 16 Monarchs, and two more scores and an assist in the Maryland home opener against the No. 19 Wolverines. Additionally, O’Donnell put 16 of her 20 shots on goal for a .800 percentage. Through five games she leads the Terps in goals (seven), assists (seven), and points (21).
