Sept. 4, 2012
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia senior Paige Selenski has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Selenski tallied 23 points with nine goals and five assists as the Cavaliers went 3-0 last week. She had 20 shots, 15 of which were on target, and two game-winning goals.
On Wednesday, the Shavertown, Pa., native notched three goals and two assists in a 6-1 win over Richmond. In a 14-0 win over Towson on Friday, she scored four goals and two assists. The 10 points is tied for the fourth-best mark by an ACC player, just two points shy of the ACC single-game record, and the 14 goals scored by Virginia set a conference record. On Sunday, the Cavaliers defeated third-ranked Old Dominion, 5-4, behind Selenski’s two goals and one assist.
The two hat tricks marked the fifth and sixth of her career, and the four-goal performance was her second.
Virginia jumped to No. 6 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll. All six ACC field hockey programs rank in the top 20, led by North Carolina at No. 1, Maryland at No. 3, and the sixth-ranked Cavaliers. Duke sits at No. 9 followed by No. 13 Wake Forest and No. 17 Boston College.
