GREENSBORO, N.C. - Danielle Forword, a junior from East London, South Africa, has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week. A starting forward for the No. 1-ranked Tar Heels; Forword, is the first recipient of the distinction this season.

On Saturday, Forword scored a career-high four goals against No. 9 ranked Michigan. Her total was only one shy of the school record of five goals in a single match. A day later, on Sunday against No. 5 ranked Iowa, Forword scored the opening goal against the Hawkeyes. Her five goals are nearly half as many as her total from the 2007 season when she scored 11 goals to rank third on the Tar Heel team.

With the win over Penn State, UNC extended its winning streak to 25 straight matches over the last two years. The string was snapped a day later when the Tar Heels fell to Iowa, 3-2, in the finale of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. The Tar Heels will look to rebound as they face Wake Forest in a non-conference match on Friday at 7 p.m. On Sunday, UNC will open the home schedule against Georgetown at 1 p.m.
