GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke senior defender Lauren Miller is selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, the first selection of the 2009 season, for her efforts in wins over No. 13 Louisville and No. 8 Michigan State.

The Cherry Hills Village, Colo., native led No. 10 Duke to a perfect 2-0 record and the tournament championship at the Champions Challenge (hosted by Duke) with a 3-0 win against Louisville on Saturday and a 3-2 overtime victory against Michigan State on Sunday.

Against No. 13 Louisville, Miller anchored the defense in pitching a shutout against the Cardinals in addition to scoring two goals. Trailing 2-0 to No. 8 Michigan State in the second half, Miller rallied the defense into shutting down the Spartans and helped get the No. 10 Blue Devils on the board with an assist. Duke eventually forced overtime, and despite beginning the extra period at a one-player disadvantage, Miller capped the comeback with a game-winning goal off a penalty stroke in the 77th minute.

Miller totaled three goals over the weekend to tie her season total from 2008, and added an assist for a combined seven points. Additionally, Miller needed just four shots to tally her three scores.

The ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week will be announced by 5:00 p.m. each Tuesday during the season. More ACC field hockey information can be accessed at TheACC.com.
