Maryland's Buckley Claims League's First Weekly Field Hockey Honor of 2011

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland senior midfielder Jemma Buckley has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week for her three-goal performance in the Terrapins’ win this weekend.
The native of Perth, Australia, scored her third career hat trick in a 3-1 victory over No. 19 Boston University on Friday. She tallied six shots in the performance, five of which were on goal.
The game was scoreless for most of the first half, until Buckley scored twice within the 33rd minute to put Maryland on top 2-0 at the break. For the first goal, she scored on shot off of a reverse shot on a penalty corner and 24 seconds later, she dribbled past Boston University’s keeper for a second goal.
With 11 minutes left in the game, she struck off of a penalty corner to claim the hat trick.
The game marked the 15th straight season opener that Maryland has won.
No. 1 Maryland returns to action on Friday when they head to Virginia to take on Old Dominion at 5 p.m. The Terrapins host No. 9 Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m.
