Wake Forest Will Host The NCAA Field Hockey Final Four, Nov. 19-21
July 9, 2004 Winston-Salem, NC - The NCAA has announced that the Field Hockey Final Four Championship games will be held at Kentner Stadium on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, November 19-21. Kentner Stadium is a hub of activity for Wake Forest athletics. Formerly known as Campus Stadium, the facility became Kentner Stadium in February 1997, named after Jeff Kentner, a major supporter of the athletic department over the last decade. With a seating capacity of 4,000 and a covered press box, the facility is among the finest of its kind in the nation. For the past several months, Kentner Stadium has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. Field Turf and Ballard Sports are in the process of installing Astroturf 12 with PVC foam pad on top of Porous Asphalt, which will make the surface safe for intramural uses and fast for the two-time defending national and ACC champion Field Hockey team. Completion date is set for August 1, 2004. Director of Operations Steve Adams has overseen the renovations, "Wake Forest is honored to be hosting the 2004 NCAA Field Hockey Final Four. We are excited about the recent renovations to Kentner Stadium and feel the facility will add to the overall quality experience for this year's championship. Our staff looks forward to working with the elite field hockey programs in the country." Over the past few years, the operations department at Wake Forest has played host to the NCAA Men's Soccer ACC Tournament (1999, 2000), and the second round of the NCAA (2002, 2003); the 1st/2nd rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament (2000); the NCAA East Regional Baseball Tournament (2002); the NCAA Women's Golf Eastern Regional (2003); and the ACC Cross Country Tournament (2003). Previously in field hockey, Wake Forest hosted the Final Four (1996), the 1st/2nd rounds of the NCAA Tournament (2000, 2001, and 2002), and the ACC Tournament in 1999. Field Hockey will again host the conference championship in 2004. Field Hockey head coach Jennifer Averill comments "It is a great honor not only for our institution but for the community as well. I have tremendous respect for our support staff in operations; they have an outstanding reputation for putting on successful major events."
