Junior Amy Stopford was recently invited to Virginia Beach, Va., to train with the U.S. National Team. Stopford will practice with the team May 31-June 11 and compete in test matches against Australia.

"Amy is an outstanding player and this is a great opportunity for her," said head coach Beth Bozman. "She will work extremely hard and continue to develop into one of the top midfielders in the country while she is with the U.S. National team."

Stopford, a member of the U.S. Under-21 team, is coming off a season in which she collected 33 points on 14 goals and five assists. The Hillsborough, N.C., native was dominant in the midfield for the Blue Devils throughout the year, earning first team South Region All-America honors and NCAA All-Tournament team accolades. Stopford is also a two-time NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad selection.

Notes

Katie Grant, Cara-Lynn Lopresti and Amy Stopford competed in the Under-21 Open Pan Am Junior Championships in March. The tournament served as a qualifying event for the Women's Junior World Cup scheduled for Sept. 14-25 in Santiago, Chile. The top three teams from the tournament, as well as Junior World Cup host Chile, qualified for September's event. The U.S. squad went 5-1 and reached the championship game to qualify for the Junior World Cup. Grant registered four goals in the tournament, while Lopresti and Stopford both played key roles in the midfield for the U.S. team.
