Duke Field Hockey Team Adds Five Recruits For 2002 Season

Head coach Liz Tchou announced the signing of five high school standouts for next season. High school teammates Kirsten Bostrom (Schwenksville, Pa.) and Nicole Dudek (Harleysville, Pa.) along with Katie Grant (Lehighton, Pa.), Christy Morgan (Centreville, Va.) and Lindsay Shaw (Wayne, Pa.) will join the program in the fall, as the Blue Devils look to build on last season's 9-9 record.

"This is one of our strongest all-around recruiting classes," said Tchou. "They all have a great work ethic, experience and skills which will give them each a chance to contribute right away."

2002 Recruiting Class

Bostrom, a four-year starter at Souderton High School, was first team All-State and regional All-America as a senior. She also garnered first team All-Area honors from the Souderton Independent, Philadelphia Inquirer and Doylestown Intelligencer. Bostrom led Souderton to three league championships and helped the team reach the state quarterfinals in 1998 and the semifinals in 2001. Her playing experience includes six years of participation in USFHA camps and tournaments, including a selection to compete at the B camp in 2002. Bostrom is also an accomplished student (two-time Academic All-America) and a standout in lacrosse.

Dudek, also a four-year starter at Souderton High School, posted a school record 39 goals and 21 assists as a senior. She was a first team All-State selection and a Mideast Region All-America, while also garnering The North Penn Reporter 2001 Field Hockey Player of the Year honors. In addition, Dudek received All-State honors as a junior, when she recording 30 goals and 19 assists. She has competed in numerous camps, tournaments and futures events including the Futures Elite Program (2000-2002). Dudek, much like her high school teammate Bostrom, is also an accomplished member of the Souderton lacrosse team.

Grant holds Leighton Area High School records for career goals (87), single-season goals (50) and most goals in a game (6). She was a four-time All-Conference selection as well as a second team All-America and a Mideast Region All-America as a junior and senior. Grant led her team to three Mountain Valley Conference titles and two state finals appearances. In addition, she owns school track records in the 100m (12.5 seconds), 4x100m relay (50.3 seconds), 4x400m relay (4:17) and triple jump (35' 11").

Morgan, a High School All-America last season, is a three-time All-District selection and two-time team Most Valuable Player. She competed in the Junior Olympics in 1999 and 2000 and has been a member of the U-16 and U-18 National Teams as well as an alternate on the U-19 National Team. Morgan also led the Centreville High School lacrosse team to a state championship in 2000.

Shaw is a two-time first team All-Central League and Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area selection. She was a team MVP and captain and an Philadelphia All-Star Classic participant in 2001. Shaw competed at the National Hockey Festival and in Futures camps for three years and was in Pool A at the 2002 National Indoor Championship.
