March 3, 2004

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced their selections for the 2003 Division I National Academic Squad on Wednesday. Wake Forest players Ariel Meyers and Lauren Crandall were among those honored for their exemplary academic record during the 2003 season.

Meyers, a forward from Lititz, Pennsylvania was one of three from her recruiting class to make Dean's List in 2002-2003, but is the only one to be honored on a national level in 2003. Meyer's was an instrumental part of the Deacons 22-1, National Championship season. With fifteen points and seven goals, Meyers started all but one game and earned ACC All-Tournament honors as the Deacons clinched their second straight ACC Title. Just a sophomore, Meyers has helped the Wake Forest team to back-to-back regular season ACC titles, ACC Tournament titles and consecutive NCAA crowns.

Freshman Lauren Crandall played in all 23 games, tallying seven goals and one assist. She received NFHCA 2nd Team All-South Region honors at the end of a phenomenal rookie season and was selected to be a member of the United States Under-19 National Team. The 2003 Academic Squad honor is the first such award of her collegiate career.
