CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Former Cavalier great Michelle Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) was named to the United States Field Hockey team that will compete in the 2000 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in March in England. The United States must finish within the top-five final placement to earn a trip to the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia in September. Ten nations have been invited to the tournament.

Vizzuso is the Cavalier record holder in assists with 60, which ranks second all-time in the ACC and 17th in Division I history. She holds the two top seasonal records, and her 25 in 1998 led the ACC. She had 14 goals and 25 assists in 1998, which led the Cavaliers with 53 points, the fourth-highest total in school history for a single season. For the third consecutive season, she reached double-digit totals in goals and assists, and she also is the only person in Cavalier history to record double-digit totals in game-winning goals (11) and assists (12) in a career. She is the first player in ACC history to reach 50 goals and 60 assists.

Vizzuso has been a member of the USA National teams since 1995 and a member of the USA Senior Team since 1997. In 1999 she won a silver medal at the Pan Am games. Vizzuso is Virginia's first-ever selection to the USA Olympic Qualifying team.
