2007 All-ACC Academic Field Hockey Team Announced
Feb. 11, 2008 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Eleven All-America performers, including Honda Sports Award-winner Rachel Dawson and fi ve other fi rst-team honorees, 17 total All-Region selections and 11 All-Conference athletes highlight the 2007 All-ACC Academic Field Hockey team, announced Monday by league commissioner John D. Swofford. All six league institutions that participate in the sport are represented on the team, including national champion North Carolina and "Final Four" participant Wake Forest. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career. Leading all ACC schools with seven selections each are Boston College, Maryland and North Carolina. Among those chosen from the three schools are seven All-Conference performers, including Bob Dirks and Julia Berkowitz of Boston College, Kathryn Masson, Susie Rowe and Janneke van Leeuwen of Maryland, and the Tar Heels' Dawson and Jesse Gey. BC's Dirks, Maryland's Masson and Rowe, as well as North Carolina's Dawson and Gey were each named fi rst-team All-Americans in 2007 by the NFHCA. Also well-represented with six team members, including fi rst-team All-American Laura Suchoski, is Duke. Wake Forest has four team honorees, while Virginia adds two to the list. This year's All-Academic squad features 18 repeat honorees from either 2005 or 2006. Among them are Duke's Shayna McGeehan and Suchoski, BC's Dirks, and North Carolina's Kendell, who have now made the team in each of the last three years. 2007 All-ACC Academic Field Hockey Team
