Sophomores Katie Grant and Nicole Dudek were recently named to the U.S. Under-21 National Team. The duo helped guide the Duke field hockey team to the first NCAA Championship game in program history and a school-best 20-4 record.

"We were excited that so many of our players were invited to the A-camp. To have seven players invited is quite a compliment for our program. Unfortunately, because of injuries, the flu and this year's age restriction only Katie Grant and Nicole Dudek ended up representing Duke," said head coach Beth Bozman. "They obviously represented our program well with their selection to the national U-21 team. Both Katie and Nicole were key players in our journey to the NCAA championship game. They have both worked very hard and it's great to see their hard work rewarded with this honor."

Grant registered one of the best individual scoring seasons in Duke history in 2003. The Lehighton, Pa., native collected 65 points (23 goals and 19 assists), the second-highest single-season point total all-time. Grant became just the second player in Duke history to top the 60-point plateau in a season and already ranks sixth in the Blue Devil record books with 99 career points and 34 career goals. The sophomore forward registered five goals and two assists in four NCAA Tournament games in 2003. Grant earned second team All-America, All-ACC, All-South Region and NCAA All-Tournament honors last season.

Dudek was a vital part of a Duke offensive attack that scored a school-record 106 goals. The Harleysville, Pa., native came off the Blue Devil bench to tally 13 goals and five assists. Dudek's speed and scoring ability constantly applied pressure to opposing defenses. The sophomore forward scored goals in NCAA Tournament wins over American and Old Dominion.
