COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Missy Meharg, who led Maryland to the 1999 NCAA Division I national championship, has been named the Dita/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Coach of the Year. In addition to the national championship, Maryland won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship and won a school-record 24 games.

Meharg led the Terps to a 24-1 overall record and a 6-0 mark in ACC play. The Terps set school records for wins in a single season (24), fewest losses in a single season (one) and consecutive victories (22). Maryland won the ACC title with a perfect 4-0 record during the regular season and was 2-0 in winning the conference tournament championship.

The 1999 NCAA championship is Meharg's second at Maryland, making her one of only four coaches to win multiple NCAA titles.
