CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Former Cavalier great Michelle Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) was named to the 2000 United States National Field Hockey team that will look to secure a berth in the 2000 Olympic Games to be held in Sydney, Australia. Jessica Coleman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) was named an alternate to the team.

Vizzuso is the Cavalier record holder in assists with 60, which ranks second all-time in the ACC and 16th in Division I history. She holds the two top seasonal records, and her 25 in 1998 led the ACC. She had 14 goals and 25 assists in 1998, which led the Cavaliers with 53 points, the fifth-highest total in school history for a single season. For the third consecutive season, she reached double-digit totals in goals and assists, and she also is the only person in Cavalier history to record double-digit totals in game-winning goals (11) and assists (12) in a career. She is the first player in ACC history to reach 50 goals and 60 assists. Vizzuso was also named the Field Hockey Player of the Century in the state of New Jersey in a ranking done by the Newark Star-Ledger.

Coleman led the 1999 team in scoring with 54 points, which is the fourth-highest single-season scoring total in school history and ranks second for second-years all-time. Her 22 goals was also the second-highest total for second-years and ranked sixth all-time at Virginia for a season. Her 54 points ranked 10th in the nation and her 2.57 points-per-game also ranked 10th. She ranked 7th in the nation with 22 goals and sixth nationally with 1.05 goals-per-game. Coleman was named to the USA Senior Women's team in 1998 and was a member of the Under-19 team in 1997 as well as an alternate to the Under-21 team in 1997. She was recently honored by the Newark Star-Ledger by being named one of the six greatest field hockey players in the state of New Jersey for the 20th century.

The United States will travel to Argentina to participate in a Four Nations tournament Jan 17. Besides the United States, Argentina will host two other teams also looking to qualify for the Olympics, Spain and New Zealand. Spain was the 1992 Olympic Champion and the United States defeated them in a tournament in Australia in September.
