Maryland Field Hockey Needs Double Overtime to Advance to the National Title Game LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In a national semifinal game which could not have been any closer, the Maryland field hockey team converted where Iowa could not in the second overtime period, scoring on a penalty corner to earn a 2-1 victory and a trip to the national championship game. Sophomore Katie O'Donnell swept in the deciding score in the 89th minute of play on a frigid night in Louisville, Ky., just moments after junior goalie Alicia Grater turned away two consecutive penalty corners for the Hawkeyes. Senior Susie Rowe, who assisted on the clinching goal, suffered a gash across nose which forced her from the game for four minutes in the second half. The captain from London, England returned to the game, battling through a physical struggle with the Hawkeyes to remain a vital piece of the Terps' defense throughout the contest. Deacons Advance to NCAA Finals with 3-2 OT Win over Syracuse WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The second-seeded Wake Forest field hockey team will play in the NCAA Finals after defeating third-seeded Syracuse 3-2 in overtime in Louisville. Junior forward Hilary Moore netted all three goals for the Demon Deacons, marking her first career hat trick. Wake Forest (22-3) will now face top seed Maryland (21-2) for the third time this season in the NCAA Championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Terrapins also earned an overtime victory, taking the fourth-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes to over 85 minutes of play before scoring the game-winning goal (2-1).
