DURHAM, N.C.. - In Thursday's second game of the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Championship at Jack Katz Stadium in Durham, N.C., third-seeded Wake Forest defeated No. 6 seed Boston College by a score of 4-3 to advance to Friday's semifinals. Junior forward Kim Romansky stole the show for the Deacons as she scored two goals and had an assist in the victory.

"First off I want to give credit to Boston College for playing such a tough game," said Wake Forest head coach and ACC Coach of the Year Jennifer Averill. "I was proud of the way our team fought back from a goal down twice. We did a good job of capitalizing when we needed to."

Boston College opened the scoring with five minutes gone from the clock when Junior Chelsey Feole posted her 16th goal of the season to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead. She was fed from the center of the scoring circle on the play by grad student Tara Fernandes.

The Eagles failed to hold the lead as Wake struck two minutes later to even the scoreline at 1-1. Junior Kim Romansky made space for herself and scored an unassisted goal, her eighth of the season.

Just two minutes after half time, Boston College scored to take the lead. Feole led an Eagle breakaway and fed senior All-ACC honoree Bob Dirks inside the circle. Dirks took a full swing and found the back of the net to give BC the 2-1 lead.

The match's second equalizer came in the 47th minute as junior Melissa Martin scored her eighth goal of the season off a pass from Romanski.

The Deacons continued their pressure in the 49th minute as Romanski scored a goal to give Wake the 3-2 lead. Her second goal and fifth point of the match came as she made space for herself and netted her ninth goal of the season.

In the 57th minute, Boston College's Janna Anctil redirected a Chelsey Feole shot through the circle to knot the score at 3-3. It was Anctil's third goal of the season and second against Wake Forest in less than a week.

Wake Forest netted the winning goal in the 65th minute on the stick of senior All-ACC selection Michelle Kasold. She was the trailer on a breakaway by junior Hillary Moore. Kassold made a diving play on the ball for her ninth goal of the season.

In the game, Wake Forest recorded 16 shots, 11 on goal, including six from senior Minou Gimbrere. The Eagles took 14 attempts with seven on goal.

Wake Forest will now face No.2 seed North Carolina in Friday's second semifinal scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The winner of that contest will play for the league title in Sunday's 1:00 p.m. championship game against either Maryland or Virginia.

"I'm excited to play North Carolina again tomorrow night," added Averill. "It will be our third meeting this season and should be quite a show."
