CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 2 seed Wake Forest got scoring performances from three different Demon Deacons to advance to their second straight tournament title game and sixth title appearance in the last seven years. The Deacs shut out sixth-seeded North Carolina 3-0 in the second semifinal contest of the 2006 ACC Field Hockey Tournament at the Francis E. Henry Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C.

After a pair of attempts at goal from the Demon Deacs early in the opening frame, Wake Forest broke through the Tar Heel defense and notched a 2-0 lead. Lauren Crandall put the Deacs on the scoreboard first with 22:55 on the clock, converting a penalty corner on a pass from Minou Gimbrere.

Haley Scott pushed the Deacs' lead to 2-0, after firing a shot that sailed past the gloves of UNC goalkeeper Brianna O'Donnell. Despite solid efforts by UNC, the Tar Heels were unable to penetrate inside Wake's circle before the break.

The Deacs came out strong in the second half, quickly picking up two penalty corners but Wake Forest was unable to find the back of the net on either chance.

Wake Forest would score its final goal in the 51st minute on a penalty corner, when Crandall connected with Michelle Kasold for her 17th goal of the season.

Goalie Crystal Duffield posted her fifth shutout this season for the win, while O'Donnell made eight saves with three goals against.

Up next, the top two teams in the country will face-off on Sunday, November 5, in the championship title game. No. 1 Maryland and No. 2 Wake Forest will meet in the tournament finals for the sixth all-time.
