Duke Field Hockey Downs Yale, 2-1

DURHAM, N.C. - In a contest between nationally-ranked teams, the No. 13 Duke field hockey team defeated No. 19 Yale by the score of 2-1 Friday night at the East Campus Turf Field.

Although out-shot in the first half, the Blue Devils opened the scoring column with :44 seconds remaining in the first half on a goal by junior Johanna Ashley (Kingston, Pa.) off a penalty corner. The goal was Ashleys first of the season.

Duke added another goal when junior Keri Dunn (Scituate, Mass.) scored off a penalty corner at the 12:24 mark in the second half.

As time expired in the contest Yale junior Sue Barnes (London, Ontario) registered the only goal for the Bulldogs.

Duke junior Corey Ceccolini (Branford, Conn.) had two assists in the contest, and Yale freshman goalkeeper Erica Waples (Milton, Del.) registered eleven saves in the losing effort.

The Duke field hockey team next faces Boston College on Sunday, October 25 at 2:30 pm at the East Campus Turf Field.
