Maryland Field Hockey Stops North Carolina, 7-0 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The players were soaked as a hard rain which started a half an hour before game time continued through much of the first half, but the Maryland field hockey team did not slip. The top-ranked Terrapins locked up the number one seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament by defeating No. 5 North Carolina, 7-0. Senior Susie Rowe and junior Nicole Muracco each scored twice in the victory, the second straight shutout and third in four games for the Maryland defense. Maryland withstood some North Carolina pressure early, as the Tar Heels controlled the time of possession in the first ten minutes. Despite holding the ball in the Maryland half circle numerous times, North Carolina could get off just one shot, which went wide off a penalty corner.
Deacons Score Six Back-to-Back Goals to Top UVA 6-2 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - No. 15 Virginia scored first, but the second-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team scored six goals in a row to post a 6-2 victory over the Cavaliers on Saturday in Charlottesville. Wake Forest is now 15-2 overall and 2-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Virginia is 11-7 and 1-3 in the ACC.
Blue Devils Dominate Appalachian State, 10-1 DURHAM, N.C. – The seventh win in a row for the No. 4 Duke field hockey team came in dominating fashion, as the Blue Devils downed visiting Appalachian State by a score of 10-1 Saturday afternoon at a rainy Williams Field. Duke (13-3, 2-2) received scoring from six different players, led by Amie Survilla’s hat trick. Marian Dickinson and Susan Ferger each added two goals, while Lauren Miller, Megan Deakins, and Ashley Pultorak chipped in one apiece. The Blue Devils fired off a season-best 38 shots while holding the Mountaineers (2-14) to just two attempts on the day.
