UNC Breaks Three-Game Skid By Routing Radford
October 21, 1998 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After a string of three tough road losses, the fifth-ranked North Carolina field hockey team enjoyed a convincing win Wednesday evening at Navy Field. The Tar Heels beat visiting Radford University 6-0 on goals by four different players. "When you lose three straight, of course you want to win again," UNC coach Karen Shelton said. "This was a good night for us. In the second half, I thought we played with a lot of energy and did a good job of involving everyone." Senior forward Nancy Pelligreen scored first for the Tar Heels, on a penalty corner with 5:59 remaining in the first half. Sophomore forward Kate Sidebottom added another goal 3:55 before the half. Freshman Katie McDonald scored two second half goals, one on a penalty corner. Sophomore back Jana Toepel also scored on a penalty corner and Pelligreen added the sixth goal with :56 left in the game. Carolina improved to 10-4 while Radford fell to 7-8. The No. 5 Tar Heels host No. 6 Boston College Saturday at Navy Field. Game time is 1 p.m.
